The educationzal mission of undergraduate and graduate studies in the Department of Communication is to prepare students for the challenges of our society that is informed, entertained, persuaded, and shaped by communication. We nurture socially responsible, literate citizens who can interpret and evaluate the messages they create and receive. We teach students to think critically, respect diversity, communicate effectively, and develop the skills needed for their future careers. Currently, over 250 students are pursuing B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in communication. Our department provides students with in-depth understanding of how people communicate across various contexts, cultures, channels, and media.
The undergraduate curriculum is intended to build a fundamental knowledge of communication in society. Within the curriculum, students may pursue academic courses that emphasize many disciplinary areas, including communication theories, journalism, broadcasting, political communication, popular culture, communication history, new media, advertising and PR.

- Understanding Newspaper Media
- Communication Theories
- Communication History in Korea
- Communication Research Methods
- Statistical Analysis for Social Science
To be eligible to receive a BA degree in communication, students must complete at least 51 credits within the Communication Department. Through the study of communication, media and society, students in the Department of Communication are able to examine the rapidly changing and evolving various media in our society. Students in the program have a great deal of flexibility to design a program that fits their needs, and undergraduate students are encouraged to take intensified major, minor or double major courses of interest.
Also, graduate program offers a student-centered, scholarly research
oriented Doctor of Philosophy(Ph.D.)/Master of Arts(MA) degree in journalism and mass communication. It is focused on original research, faculty-student mentoring, an interdisciplinary experience and flexibility.
The Department of Communication is home to seven well-recognized faculty members who are engaged in cutting-edge research that deals with socially pressing problems in communication. Our faculty and instructors are also creative and committed teachers who bring passion and enthusiasm to the classroom.
